Jay Miller
Dallas, Texas U.S.A.

This is my little creative corner of cyberspace! I spend a lot of time here in my sanctum sanctorum doing a variety of things to generate revenue and enjoy life!

I am a sixth generation Texan and was born and raised in the Texas panhandle town of Amarillo. My great-grandfather was a pioneer Texas portrait photographer and my father was a newspaper photographer. I followed in his footsteps as I worked my way through the University of Texas shooting pictures for the Daily Texan and the Associated Press.

After graduation I spent a few years in Galveston, Texas doing medical photography and then moved to Dallas in 1978 where I entered the professional photofinishing business. I rose to become marketing and advertising director of the largest photofinishing lab in the country. I opened my own creative firm in 1984 with the advent of the Macintosh computer and a new software program called PageMaker. My principal market for photography work is multi-family apartment communities and I probably shoot more of them than anyone else in Texas. Check out my Professional Photography section for more information on the "business side."

These talents helped me write and produce my best selling vintage radio books The Pocket Guide to Collins Amateur Radios in 1995 and my second Collins book- A Pictorial History of Collins Amateur Radio Equipment was published in December 1999.

Besides my photography work and ham radio, my chief passion is model railroading-- a hobby I have enjoyed for over 40 years. A new layout is well-underway (see the Model Railroading section of this site).

I have many other interests which include carpentry work, collecting Erector sets, gardening and Cowboy Action Shooting. I am also a Mason (Trinity Lodge #1048) and active in the Scottish Rite. My wife and I rebuilt our 1929 vintage home almost from the ground up (her money and patience, my sweat and Tim-the-Toolman talents). I consider myself to be the luckiest man in the whole world!

My wife is a beautiful and charming real estate executive who treats me much better than I deserve. I have two beautiful daughters. My youngest graduated from the University of Texas at Austin and is an art director here in Dallas. My elder daughter is in Los Angeles on the staff of Entertainment Tonight.
