The Atlantic and Pacific Railroad drilled this 328-foot tunnel near Ash Fork, Arizona in 1882. It was used by the Santa Fe railroad as part of their transcontinental rail line until 1959 when a major line change was opened. Lined with boilerplate, the Johnson Canyon tunnel is remote but accessable. My friend John McCall stands on a mound of dirt piled at the west portal.
