Chiaroscuro is an ancient art term explaining the transition from one tone into another or of differing contrasts. My good friend and travelling bud Dr. McCall says he learned about it as a kid looking at "nekkid pictures of women" in art magazines! In all my years in photography I'd never heard the word until I looked it up in an ancient Focal Encyclopedia! It is now a standing joke between us. Here is a textbook example somewhere near Jacumba, California.
