| The Collins 312A-2 station console is one of the most collectable pieces of Collins A-Line equipment. I made mine out of a 312A-1 speaker. While some purists may object to this type of "kitbashing," finding an original is not only difficult, it is prohibitively expensive. I found the Tymeter Model 100 clock at a flea market, made a bracket and cast a clock bezel from an original part using polyester resin in a silicone mold. The wattmeter came from a piece of Collins military equipment. The direction indicator came from Fair Radio Sales. I bought some hardware cloth (the grille) and punched it according to the original. The small ID badges were made from sheet aluminum and lettered with my own custom dry transfers. This unit is mostly for looks as the antenna direction system requires the use of selsyns and 110vdc relays. | |
